Five Barcelona Recommendations!

I spent my 21st birthday exploring a new city. What better way to celebrate than doing your most favourite thing?! I've wanted to go to Barcelona for so long now and I thought this would be the perfect opportunity.

Here I've put together my top 5 recommendations of things to do/places to eat in Barcelona:

This was without a doubt the best hotel I have ever stayed in. The location was perfect, with a 15 minute walk to the ‘centre’, close to the metro and on many bus routes. Our room was amazing. The staff kindly upgraded us upon arrival, so we were given a bigger room! It’s safe to say I’ve never slept in a bed so big! It had everything we needed and all of the small touches made our stay so special, like the maids turning down our bed and leaving a chocolate on our pillows. The rooftop pool was actually the reason I chose the hotel in the first place, as there aren't that many hotels in the centre of the city with a pool.  We spent most of our mornings sunbathing before we went off to explore! They made my birthday so special, bringing us breakfast in bed and just being genuinely lovely.

2.      Patrón Restaurant

We were recommended this restaurant by a member of staff at the hotel, I told him it was my birthday and I wanted to celebrate with paella (because who doesn't want paella on their birthday duuh)! The restaurant was about a 10/15 minute walk from the hotel and it's located by Av. Diagonal.  I can’t quite believe how amazing this restaurant was. Such beautiful décor, amazing food and cocktails and the live jazz band singing happy birthday to me was so lovely! Again, the staff were so friendly and I wish we went more than once as the whole menu looked incredible. I would recommend this to anyone looking for a variety of cocktails and gorgeous Spanish food.

3.Park Güell

Park Güell is a beautiful park located on one of the hills overlooking the city of Barcelona. The famous Gaudi was assigned to develop an estate for the extremely well off families back in 1900. The view from the park is unbeatable and the architecture is truly beautiful. I love the way Gaudi incorporated tiles and mosaics in all of his work! If you've got a free afternoon in Barcelona, I'd definitely recommend you to visit Park Güell, you can pre-book tickets (for around 8 euros) if you would like to visit the 'Gaudi' area of the park or you can just roam around the gardens and take in the amazing views.

4. Casa Conxita

This small cafe/restaurant was opposite our hotel. We decided to go here for breakfast as it was so close and everything on the menu sounded delicious. Casa Conxita had so many choices, one day we had Spanish omelettes and the next I had homemade waffles with berries - so good! They have loads of lovely juices and smoothies on the menu too. It was very well priced and the staff were all so lovely! If you're in this area, I'd definitely recommend stopping by for either breakfast/lunch/dinner or even all three.. I heard the cocktails were amazing!

5. Walk along La Rambla, the port & beach area!

La Rambla is possibly the most famous street in Barcelona. It is lined with traditional Spanish tapas restaurants and rows  of flower shops! It leads down from Plaça de Catalunya in the centre to the Christopher Columbus Monument at Port Vell. It really is a lovely walk, on the way down you can stop off for a bite to eat, some sangria or do a spot of shopping! Once you've walked down past the port to the beach, be warned the beach is very busy, but it's a perfect opportunity to stop off at one of the beach bars and enjoy a cocktail.. or two.. whilst taking in the lovely views.

Thanks for reading! I really hope you enjoyed my post!

Barcelona was definitely one of my favourite cities to explore!
