LONDON: Afternoon Tea at sketch

I don't know about you (fellow temporary Londoners), but I have a 'bucket' list as long as my leg of places I want to visit (especially to eat and drink at) in London. I've been living here over three years and haven't even made a dint in that list. But when I do manage to check off a place I've been lusting over for ages, it feels so good!

Now, I love tea, cake, and actually any food that looks too cute to eat. So afternoon tea is my kind of heaven! But at quite a hefty price tag, I knew I wouldn't be going to sketch on a whim, it isn't really one of those places you just walk by and say to your pal "ooh shall we?". The month long waitlist will also stop you in your tracks if you do decide to do that..

As a joint birthday and finishing our placement celebration, my work wife and I decided to book in (a month exactly in advance) and treat ourselves! We are both pescatarian and she's also allergic to nuts but the lady who took the reservation was extremely friendly and made sure we would be looked after on the day.

We arrived and were seated in the Gallery on the pink velvet 'cloud' like chairs, greeted by champagne and an explanation of how the afternoon will pan out. As part of the package, you get unlimited tea & I tried all sorts! The staff are SO knowledgable and were encouraging us to try the weird and wonderful teas. I was also a huge fan of the crockery.. the whole place just felt extremely modern, artistic and every detail was so well thought out.

The food was amazing. Utterly amazing! However there was no way I could finish it all, but without batting an eyelid our waitress boxed up the leftovers for us.

We arrived at 3pm and the Gallery was quite quiet, but soon picked up within the next half an hour! You get 2 hours guaranteed on the table - which is the perfect amount of time to enjoy the several courses, champagne and tea. As I mentioned, it is quite expensive at £58 per person (without champagne) and £72 including a glass of champagne. But I truly think the whole experience is worth it - especially for a special occasion! Not to mention the experience of peeing in an egg toilet...

All in all, I absolutely loved my afternoon at sketch and urge you to go if you can!
